The Purpose of the Project

The Purpose of the Project

As Think Pacific, we aim to provide the funding, planning and logistical support to enable local communities, provincial councils, government partners and other stakeholders to achieve specific development aims. This project is no different!

The project aims to provide an outreach opportunity for Diabetes Fiji’s NCD screening and advocacy program, pushing delivery in a rural location. You will be participating in the delivery of the project and witnessing the facilitation on it.

Main Purpose:

  1. To raise awareness around the prevention, treatment and care of NCDs in Fiji.
  2. To provide data to the Ministry of Health for the community after Diabetes screening efforts.
  3. To Identify and therefore support individuals who are pre-diabetic or diabetic in the host community.

Key Project Aims and Objectives Achieved in correlation with Fiji’s National Development Plan:

  • 3.1.6 HEALTH AND MEDICAL SERVICES – Changes in lifestyle, healthy diets and physical activity are crucial for preventative health care and prevention of NCDs. A multi-sectoral approach through better health education, production and promotional and awareness campaigns will be further enhanced to address this issue. Collaboration and partnership with the private sector, NGOs and development partners will be pursued.
  • 3.1.6 (Programme Approach) – Health Promotion including Private sector partnerships
  • 3.1.6 – Rehabilitation services for NCD-related disability and injuries (incl. through diabetes hubs)

Key Policies

  • Promote population health and reduce premature morbidity and mortality due to NCDs as part of a whole-of-society approach to wellness and well-being.
  • Expand investment in approaches to address non-communicable diseases, including nutrition, mental health and injuries, within and beyond the health sector.
