- Non-Emergency illness/injury: Leader & volunteer travel to closest village nursing station, medical centre or hospital eg. Sigatoka / Rakiraki / Suva / Nadi
- Emergency/Larger illness/injury: If stable, leader and volunteer travel straight to Suva. If unstable/in a lot of pain the leader and volunteer travel to the nearest suitable facility. Where possible, contact your PC to identify the most suitable medical facility to support volunteers. Examples of towns in Viti Levu with hospitals with 24/7 emergency departments – Sigatoka / Rakiraki / Suva / Nadi
- ALL Mental Health: Travel straight to Suva.
Medical Treatment Outcome
Outcome 1: Doctor treats volunteer as outpatient and advises fit to return to project on same day
- Action: volunteer returns to project with Leader ‘immediately’.
If volunteer cannot immediately return to project:
Outcome 2: Doctor treats volunteer as outpatient and advises fit to return to project within 24 hours (1 night)
- Action: Accommodation x 1 night for Leader & Volunteer in Sigatoka / Rakiraki, and returning to village next day
Outcome 3: Doctor advises a minimum of 48 hour + off project and / or further review period. All these details need to be reflected in a doctor’s note/medical report so volunteers can start an insurance case file.
- Action 1: Volunteer provided transport to Suva, and accommodation x 1 night paid by TP (Suva Office). Payments then transferred to volunteers.
- Action 2: Leader returns to Project after 24 hours
- Action 3: TP Health Support Staff (FPC/PC) in Suva oversee sick volunteers…
- This will include 2 x daily touch points with volunteers
- Presence at any further reviews / treatments at Suva medical centre, prior to return to project or repatriation.
Action 4: HS to ensure volunteers have a medical review before returning to the community and get a medical note reflecting that they are medically fit to return to the village//verbal confirmation volunteers can return to the village.
