Rest and Reflection (R&R)
Once the project has finished, R&R is an official period of relaxation and reflection after a team’s time in the village during the project. This is one final night in a resort in Nadi.
Leader expectations at R&R
- Upon arrival at the resort, always check-in with the kitchen to clarify and check-in on any dietary requirements in the team.
- This is also a period of rest for leaders, but it is always important to have at least one leader present in a public area at all times – the project has not finished and you are still supporting your team.
NB: When arriving at the resort on R&R bring the team together to brief them on our standards and expected etiquette. They can celebrate, but they must remember they continue to represent Think Pacific.
Team Feedback Session
A crucial part of R&R, we always want to gain the thoughts and opinions of the volunteers experience of the project for both our own value as Think Pacific to further develop the project experience, but also as a valuable part of our monitoring and evaluation process for the community.
See below how to conduct these session:
Team Reflection – Delivery
This is a great session to reflect collectively as a group and get into the right mindset for the feedback sessions afterwards.
- Leaders make a line on the floor/wall with masking tape to represent the timeline of the project from start to finish.
- Everyone in the team is given two sticky-notes (two different colours). They are then asked to write a personal highlight and a personal challenge on the two notes from any part of the project. They then must stick the note on the rough timeline of the project.
- After everyone has posted notes on the timeline, ask individuals to go up and pick up a note that wasn’t theirs and read to the rest of the group.
- Some good follow up questions to stimulate discussion.:
- Highlight – Why was it a highlight? Does the team agree?
- Challenge – What made it a challenge? Was it overcome? If not, why wasn’t it? How would it be overcome?
Team Feedback – Delivery
Once the reflection session is completed, a feedback form is shared to the team to complete individual (it should take around 10mins to complete)
The form will be shared as a QR code, sent to you by your Project Coordinator, and this can be distributed using the QR code/Link to the rest of the team.
