Drinking in the Village – Communities

Drinking in the Village

Think Pacific cannot impose rules onto a community that has existing by-laws, we slot into the lifestyle and structures of the village. However, during prep-visits, we do ask that village community members not drink alcohol during the project in respect of the volunteer code of conduct. This does not make it illegal, but for volunteer’s safety and sense of comfort we still actively discourage it.

  1. If somebody in the village is drinking/drunk, this would be a discussion with the TNK.
  2. Respectfully ask that the TNK reminds the community of their commitments to not drink alcohol that they undertook when they accepted the project to take place. These reasons are mainly:
    1. For the safety and comfort of the volunteers
    2. In solidarity with the volunteers as part of our code of conduct
  3. Check in with volunteers who may have witnessed/raised the issue and make sure they feel safe and comfortable.

NB: If the issue is severe, dangerous or persistent, liaise with your Project Coordinator to discuss the bespoke situation and reach and outcome.
