Your Presentation…

Follow the steps below to ensure from start to finish you are prepared for your presentation!

Getting yourself prepared

What type of presenter are you?

Reflecting on your strengths will certainly help you find your style, become comfortable and authentic in your delivery, but that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily immediately feel comfortable doing the presentation! Many might enjoy making speeches in front of large audiences and they take to the stage with relish! But the vast majority of us do not, and it is great to be aware of this to understand how we can begin to prepare for the presentation and deal with how we might feel while presenting. The good news is, however, the more you do it, the more easy it becomes so in this case, throwing yourself in and getting experience under your belt prepares you better for future presentation opportunities. At Think Pacific, we like this quote:

“Get comfortable with being uncomfortable”

TP’s Top 6 Presenting Tips!

Think about who your audience is. They have all opted to come, they’re excited! Keep that alive!

What tone do you want to use for the presentation? Is it going to be the same throughout the session?

Eye contact! Keeping eye contact while you are speaking is a great way to show your confidence and the passion in what you are saying.

On the Day

– Wear your Think Pacific T-shirt!

– Download your presentation onto your laptop AND a UBS stick

– Arrive to your presentation room at least 10 minutes early to ensure the technology is all working!

    The Presentation

Stand outside the room to welcome people to the session!

Start with an introduction about yourself
    – Your name, year of study and subject
    – When did you volunteer in Fiji and what project did you take part in
    – More about your village, highlands/coast? How many families?

    The Presentation itself…

Keep it slow and simple, this is the first time people are hearing this information
    – Give them a moment to absorb each slide!

If you are presenting with someone else, you can make things a conversation.
    – Ask each other questions throughout, of their experience and how they found different areas, any tips?

    Post Presentation

Stick around for post presentation questions!
Lots of people generally won’t ask questions in the moment but will want to chat about your experience afterwards.

Questions the team regularly get asked are:
    – How did you find the food?
    – What was your experience with the language barrier?
    – How did you find being with a team of people you didn’t know?
    – Does Think Pacific book our flights or do I book them myself? Can I fly with other people?

Whenever answering questions like this, remember that this is their first experience and thoughts of Think Pacific. What do you want them to know? Wording that projects are challenging and can be mentally and physically demanding is fine, but always caveat with it is so worth it and their is so much fun to be had!

    Final Tips
